BLACK PARADE: A Cinematic Showcase

This series celebrates the beauty and complex intricacies of living while Black, through the power of film. We will explore a cinematic legacy of stories from acclaimed African American and Black filmmakers and artists, venturing into the Black experience in all its richness, diversity, and depth. From joyfully entertaining to stirringly thought-provoking, this series will offer films across various genres and categories. Sometimes we’ll collectively discuss reactions to themes (from our complicated history to the nuanced experiences of Black Americans), in a welcoming and inclusive community space.

On the 4th Wednesday of each month, Chris Ballentine and INGOMA Films – will present a curated film series. We invite you to enjoy a collection of compelling stories, from historical to contemporary, that will offer glimpses into the African-American experience.

Baada ya masika

Ten-year-old Aisha's latest school assignment asks her to say what she wants to be when she grows up. She soon realises that all her classmates have written that they are going to take over their parents' businesses or follow them into their professions. Aisha has bigger dreams: she wants to go to Europe and become an actress. How to do it? Her plan is to find a job on a fishing boat so that she can sail all the way to Europe, but her mother thinks that fishing should be left to men. Aisha doesn't agree - and when she meets Hassan, a drunken fisherman who promises to teach her how to fish, she seizes her opportunity.

Damien Hauser

Born in 2001 in Zurich, Switzerland. He has been producing short films since the age of seven. From 2018 to 2020 he worked for the advertising production company Filme von draussen as a director and cinematographer. In 2020, he graduated from the film school SAE Institute Zurich. His first feature film BLIND LOVE (2021) was released on Netflix Africa and had its European premiere at PÖFF in Tallinn. MEMORY OF PRINCESS MUMBI (2025) premieres in Venice's Giornate degli Autori. He works as a freelance film director.
